Richard Blaszak, M.D., Section Chief

On behalf of our entire staff, I would like to welcome you to the Section of Pediatric Nephrology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. I’m thrilled that you have chosen to access our website and look forward to connecting with you on a more personal level. For your convenience, the webpage is organized so that the main page provides a brief description of divisional activities, clinics, services, and resources. On the side bar you will find 2 additional tabs. The first is a “Meet the Faculty” tab which allows you to learn more about individual faculty members and their unique interest. The other tab “Contact Us” provides a phone number should you wish to contact me or any of the other team members.

Arkansas Children’s Hospital, with 300+ beds and 3 intensive care units (pediatric, cardiovascular, and neonatal) is one of the largest free-standing children’s hospitals in the country. We have an active acute kidney injury program which provides hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy to even the smallest of children. We also routinely care for 20 or more children with endstage kidney disease in the states only pediatric dialysis unit offering both chronic peritoneal and hemodialysis. Additionally, as the only CMS certified pediatric kidney transplant program in Arkansas, our patient’s are able to partner with our multidisciplinary care team to achieve excellent outcomes. Since the program’s inception in 1987 we have transplanted over 240 children.

The Division has more than 3600 outpatient clinic visits each year and performs over 500 twenty four hour ambulatory blood pressure measurement studies annually. New patient wait times are typically less than 1 week. Our telemedince program is continuing to expand; however, we also continue to offer on site regional clinics in Northwest Arkansas and Jonesboro. Our team also participates in a number of multidisciplinary clinics (complex nephrology/urology, spina bifida, tuberous sclerosis, fetal medicine, rheumatology, endocrinology, etc.) as well as several national collaborative quality improvement initiatives (IROC-Improving Renal Outcomes Collaborative; SCOPE- Standardized Care to Improve Outcome in Pediatric ESRD; NAPRTCs, etc.).

We sincerely thank you for taking the time to explore the nephrology division and hope that you will connect with us in the future.

Warmly

Richard Blaszak
