When I study medicine, I most enjoying learning about: Cardiac physiology, expanding utilization of ultrasound, improving outcomes in trauma, and improving the care of those with special needs.
Things that make me unique are: my last name for sure (big hit with the little ones). We have an Aussie/dachshund puppy. I recently ran the Disney Princess Half-Marathon and got a big, glittery medal. It was my wife’s idea.
I’m not only a doctor, I also like to: cook! Any weather is barbecuing weather with the right attitude. Hot take - both dry AND wet rubs are delicious.
To get myself motivated I think of: how we have the coolest jobs in the world. So few get to do work in a field where we are constantly pushed to grow, where we learn constantly, and where we have a unique and vital role in caring for the well-being of others.
The hours I spend warm and cozy with a book I’m reading: anything and everything. Grisham and Baldacci are my go-to fiction reads if I just have a couple of days free. I just finished Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, which I highly recommend. The best book I read in the last year was All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (thanks to my co-intern, Julie, for putting me onto this one).
With popcorn in hand the movie I’m watching is: Shawshank Redemption
I’m in front of the TV so I won’t miss: College football or college basketball. NFL, too. And golf. And I guess the NBA Finals. I’m kinda trying to become a hockey guy, too. Oh and the occasional horse race.
On my iPod, iPhone, iMac, iPad, etc. I listen to: rock, classic rock, hip-hop, and probably more pop than I care to admit. Michael Jackson, Zac Brown Band, Chance the Rapper, Switchfoot, Lucero, Kendrick, Coldplay, Tom Petty, Sturgill Simpson, George Strait, Jimmy Buffett, John Mayer, RTJ, Waylon Jennings. All good. Not Drake. Drake is not good.

I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and...: the people. Arkansas Children’s Hospital is a fantastic hospital, but the people here truly care about the trainees and patients. They make it feel like much more than just a job.

Things that make me unique are: I collect coffee mugs from everywhere I go (or anywhere my friends/family remember to buy me one!). I try crème brulee at every restaurant that offers one... currently, the best in Little Rock can be found at Samantha’s or Brave New. And if you hear me referring to my “children”, I’m talking about Rosie and Jasmin, my wonderful, crazy, floppy hound dogs.
I’m not only a doctor, I also like to: Cook, bake, and share the food I make with other people! Yard work in the spring is also one of my favorite pastimes, and the result is totally worth it. I also love research, and usually actually enjoy reading journal articles.
To get myself motivated I think of: what the end result will look like.

Residency is a very rigorous four-year commitment and I wanted to be at a place that would be my home away from home. When we came on my interview, my wife and I both absolutely fell in love with the program. After we left our interview days we knew for sure it was the place we wanted to be!

I’m not only a doctor, I also like to: rock climb, cook, and craft. After a DIY wedding, I’ve discovered my inner artist, and I’m always looking for the next craft I can try.
To get myself motivated I think of: how lucky I am to be a doctor in the United States. For real, I normally just listen to some Bruno Mars and dance, then I end up feeling pretty motivated.
