The Department of Pediatrics is the largest department of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine in Little Rock, Arkansas. The main offices of the Department are located on the campus of Arkansas Children’s Hospital, a long-time clinical and teaching affiliate of UAMS. Child using stethescope on a doctorThe two institutions coordinate clinical service, educational programs and research initiatives among pediatric faculty and other university faculty. Pediatrics’ faculty is also assigned to selected areas within the UAMS Medical Center and physicians from the Department provide clinical services on a regular basis to regional clinics around the state.

Pediatrics’ staffing totals more than 1,100 employees, including more than 200 faculty members and 950 professionals, paraprofessionals and support staff working in 26 sections in the department.

Our Philosophy

The future of pediatric health care depends on the performance of the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics as educators. We endeavor to provide the highest quality, comprehensive and well-organized curriculum and program for our students, residents, fellows and other trainees. We tailor our instruction to meet the specific needs of individual trainees.

We promote self-directed learning as the basis for life-long continuing education. We strive to fulfill the needs for continuing medical education and community education in pediatrics in the State. We are innovators in education and we continuously improve our programs and develop the teaching skills of our educators.
