I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and…:It is an excellent training program with a variety of pediatric patients. The attendings are extremely knowledgeable and take time to teach residents. This program is absolutely amazing!

When I study medicine, I most enjoying learning about:  acute medical illnesses.  I have always been drawn to medicine in the hospital and ER setting. I enjoy the puzzle of trying to compile a patient’s symptoms into a particular illness and determining the appropriate treatment.
Things that make me unique are:  I have two dogs and a cat. I would have a lot more if I had room for them in my home. I can’t visit the Humane Society without bringing a pet home.
I’m not only a doctor, I also like to:  take my dogs on walks, swim in my pool, go to the lake, take vacations with my husband and spend time with my family. We also spend a lot of time remodeling our home.
To get myself motivated I think of:  the fact that I probably need to know this for residency. Its easier now to see that learning as much as you can is important to being a great doctor and that learning is going to be a life long process.
The hours I spend warm and cozy with a book I’m reading:  anything. I like to go to the store and just pick up a random book and read it. I’ve read everything from romance novels to biographies in the last few months.

On my iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc. I listen to:  a wide variety mostly alternative though I will put it on a top50 hip/hop for my morning pump-up. The Black Keys, Brand New, The Avett Brothers, Lumineers, Gungor, Jason Mraz, Daft Punk, Justice, and Ingrid Michaelson are some of my got-to groups.
When friends and family come visit me in Little Rock, I want to take them to: the best outdoors views I can (especially once fall hits).
I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and…: It is the place to go for pediatrics subspecialties in AR similar to my med school and is huge. Even though I want to do general pediatrics, I want to feel comfortable with all types of kids.

This place is truly the best of both worlds. It seems like one big family where everyone cares about your success and wants to help you achieve it. Also, not having to deal with -50 degree weather is an added bonus.

And I went to “clown college” for a weekc one summer so I can do cheap magic tricks, paint faces, and create awesome balloon animals.

To get myself motivated I think of: How I want to eventually serve as a physician on Medical Mission trips in other countries. I need to soak up all the knowledge I can so that one day I will be able to help others.
