I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and…: I enjoyed my rotation in the Heme/Onc clinic as a 4th year. Everyone at Arkansas Children’s was kind and welcoming. The residents seemed like a tight knit group and seemed to love their jobs.

I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and…: I have loved ACH and my fellow residents ever since the day I came to Little Rock for my interview! As the sixth largest children’s hospital in the country and the only pediatric hospital in the state, the patients and the pathology that was see are unprecedented!

I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and…: Because the residents are people I knew I would want in my corner during this phase of my training. It was really important to me to find a program where I felt like I could ask a million questions, and be encouraged as I learned. I found that at UAMS! I knew I would get the training I needed, in an environment that was supportive, with a group of residents that would always have my back!

I’m not only a doctor, I also like to: I really enjoy traveling; during college I studied in the Netherlands for a semester, and have been to Kenya twice for medical mission. I also am a certified scuba diver having dove in Bermuda, the Caymans, Belize, and even Alaska!

I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and…: I genuinely felt comfortable with the current residents and faculty. It has a similar feel to my hometown but with new and exciting opportunities. It also is the place to go for sub-specialty care in AR much like my medical school in MS. That is what I was looking for: a home away from home.

With popcorn in hand the movie I’m watching is: Anything! Except chick flicks (unless Priscilla insists) and watching a movie more than once. Thrillers are probably my favorite. Also, I usually have candy in hand rather than popcorn.
Without a DVR on my cable box I’d miss (or I’m in front of the TV so I won’t miss): Soccer games. I try to watch all of Liverpool’s games and most of Barcelona’s games.

When friends and family come visit me in Little Rock, I want to take them to: It depends… If it is my parents, I will take them to see one of the several natural parks. If it is my friends, we are going out to eat.

Things that make me unique are: I have hiked 1.75 14’ers in Colorado. I have traveled to 3 continents and 6 different countries in the last ten years. I also immensely enjoy studying art and art history, so much so that I used to participate in art history competitions! Watercolor is my favorite medium, and Bernini is my favorite sculptor of all time.
I’m not only a doctor, I also like to: Hike (especially the Colorado Rockies), camp, be in or near the water and sunshine, attend Zumba classes, try new recipes in the kitchen, take on new arts and crafts projects, go swing dancing, travel anywhere I can with my husband, and binge watch HGTV.

It’s a field that is exciting and constantly changing!
Things that make me unique are: I have the #1 most common first and middle name in the US for the year that I was born, and the #2 most common last name. I played the French horn for a music scholarship while on college. I eat jalapenos on pretty much everything.
I’m not only a doctor, I also like to: I love to travel! In the last four years I’ve backpacked in Europe, worked with a medical mission team in Guatemala, went skiing in Colorado, and visited my best friend in South Korea. I also really love Arkansas and being outdoors. Running outside and going to the lake are my favorite activities while I’m at home.
To get myself motivated I think of: On a daily basis, I’m motivated by mostly prayer and coffee. However, my main motivation is thinking about my patients and the impact that I hope to make in my career.

It’s close to home, and the city offers all the things I love to do. Also, of all the places we interviewed, it was my wife’s favorite!
