Alicia Asbury, M.D.

Name: Alicia Asbury
Home Town: Lonsdale, AR
Medical School: University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
When I study medicine, I most enjoying learning about: the pathophysiology behind diseases and disease processes. Understanding why something happens helps me better understand how to treat it, or prevent it, if possible.
Things that make me unique are: I live about 35 minutes outside of Little Rock with my newborn son and husband, and our dog. My commute is long but I love the drive and having time to think before arriving to and getting home from work.
I’m not only a doctor, I also like to: spend time with my husband and newborn son. We enjoy camping, fishing, and just spending time outside with our family and friends.
To get myself motivated I think of: how blessed I am to have this opportunity and how so many others would love to be able to have the ability to do this amazing job.
The hours I spend warm and cozy with a book I’m reading: anything Nicholas Sparks, Jodi Picoult, or JoJo Moyes.
With popcorn in hand the movie I’m watching is: whatever my husband and I can decide on. We both love action movies and I love romantic comedies every now and then!
Without a DVR on my cable box I’d miss (or I’m in front of the TV so I won’t miss): Chicago fire and Grey’s anatomy!
On my iPod, iTouch, iPhone, iMac, iPad, etc. I listen to: anything country. Right now my favorites are Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Luke Combs, and Jason Aldean.
When friends and family come visit me in Little Rock, I want to take them to: Pinnacle Mountain for a beautiful hike and then The Big Orange or Chuy’s for some good food.
I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and…: I loved the chance to learn under the great physicians and residents that I was able to spend some time with during third and fourth year rotations. During my time at ACH, I could see that the attendings want the residents to learn and that the residents are like a family and truly enjoy working together.

Patrick Ayers, M.D.

Name: Patrick Ayers
Home Town: Brookhaven, MS
Medical School: University of Mississippi School of Medicine
When I study medicine, I most enjoying learning about: I really enjoy learning about the resiliency of the human body when it is under fire by different diseases. I think children are some of the bravest warriors when it comes to battling illness because no matter how sick they may become, they always seem to maintain smiles on their faces.
Things that make me unique are: The things I pride myself the most on are my ability to blend into any social situation and contribute whatever I can to make the group better.
I’m not only a doctor, I also like to: I’m also a Crossfit enthusiast, although I’m nowhere near the level of those you see on TV. I love being outdoors, whether it’s hiking up hills or swimming down a lazy river. Coupling that with a passion for duck hunting makes Arkansas the next perfect place for me to call home.
To get myself motivated I think of: I like to reflect on the road I’ve traveled thus far and realize that the true journey is just beginning. The endless possibilities and opportunities that lie in wait only fuel me to push even further down the path that God has set before me.
The hours I spend warm and cozy with a book I’m reading: I’m usually reading the latest by Greg Isles or whatever New York Bestseller catches my eye. Participating in my med school’s book club has really helped broaden my horizon when it comes to non-textbook related literature.
With popcorn in hand the movie I’m watching is: I’m a pretty big nerd when it comes to superheroes, so anything DC or Marvel comics-related material is usually sure to receive my full attention. I also enjoy Pixar films, and I may or may not have watched enough Toy Story over the years to the point of quoting the entire movie.
Without a DVR on my cable box I’d miss (or I’m in front of the TV so I won’t miss): I don’t really watch a lot of mainstream TV shows, but I’d be completely lost without an active Netflix and HBO GO subscription.
On my iPod, iTouch, iPhone, iMac, iPad, etc. I listen to: I listen to a lot of Nathaniel Rateliff and other related artists. Classic Rock is my favorite genre; however, which further indicates that I was born in the wrong generation for music
When friends and family come visit me in Little Rock, I want to take them to: I’m still not entirely familiar with the area, but I hope to do a lot of hiking up Pinnacle Mountain whenever my family is in town. I also think everyone deserves a stroll down the Rivermarket District. There are several spots that I know a few of my friends would appreciate.
I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and…: The residents and faculty are people I could easily consider a part of my extended family beyond the label of just “co-worker.” Arkansas Children’s is also by far the most beautiful facility I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting, and I’m all the more excited about the opportunity of getting to work there for the next three years! I know the anxiety of re-locating to a new place is challenging for some, but I feel like I will be more than welcomed in the city of Little Rock.
